There are a lot of social media books out there, but few are as practical as Dan Zarrella’s. Dan brings a very unique flavor to the social media world, as someone who has actively researched, measured, analyzed social media trends. He knows what works and what doesn’t work and throughout this book, you will learn what to do right so you don’t make common mistakes. Social media marketing isn’t going to disappear anytime soon, so you better start learning this stuff if you want to be in business in the future. This book will show you how to actually use social media tools to make a real business impact. Hats off to Dan!

Dan Zarrella’s book is pretty fantastic. I read a pre-release copy that was available to me. It skips a lot of the theory and unnecessary details that make other books dense and confusing. The Social Media Marketing Book leaves you with real actionable advice on how to step into social media and get real value out of it, and it’s great whether you’re 50 and have never used social media before, or you’re 25 and have never tried to use it for real work before. Providing actionable advice and real targets for how to just get stuff done without worrying too much is an admirable goal and not something that most authors can do well. Dan does it.
Full Disclosure: I work with Dan Zarrella at HubSpot.

I just finished reading Dan Zarrella’s book and I am very impressed. If you are new to the world of social media or wondering how to make it fit your marketing strategy, this book is a perfect starting point. Dan lays out all the dimensions of social media in an easy-to-understand way, outlining the do’s and don’t’s for each of them. It doesn’t pretend to be a Bible of the topic: for in-depth tactics for each leg of your social media marketing strategy, you will need to pick up other titles. But it gives you a very complete feel for what lies ahead, should you want to market your brand through social media, something that you will soon realize not to be an option but a must.
